RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-six; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Lake Forest, Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., was a widely admired civic leader and the loving husband of Suzanne, nee Searle; and

WHEREAS, Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., was the much-adored father of Karie, Carolynn and John, the grandfather of five and the great-grandfather of one to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A native of Evanston, Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., was the grandson of Silas Strawn, a founder of the law firm Winston & Strawn; and

WHEREAS, Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., graduated from Yale University and served his country as a member of the United States Air Force; and

WHEREAS, Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., served as the Vice Chairman of G.D. Searle & Co. pharmaceutical firm until it was sold to Monsanto in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., was the Chairman of the boards of many of Chicago's leading arts, health and educational institutions and was known as one of the City's leading philanthropists; and

WHEREAS, Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., chaired the Rehabilitation Institute's board during the 1960s and 1970s; and

WHEREAS, Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., was a Past Chairman of the Board of the Art Institute of Chicago and a trustee for fifty years at Lake Forest College; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Wesley M. Dixon, Jr., imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
