MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR BROOKLYN COOPER
WHEREAS, young Brooklyn Cooper was taken to her eternal resting place on January 6, 2016; and
WHEREAS, this esteemed body has been notified of Brooklyn's passing by the Honorable Alderman Derrick Curtis ofthe 18th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Brooklyn was a kindergartner at Owen Scholastic Academy, a CPS magnet school. In 2014 Brooklyn was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor; and
WHEREAS, Brooklyn valiantly faced this challenge continuing to laugh and enjoy life. She especially liked playing the game Farkle with family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Owen Scholastic Academy has been very supportive of Brooklyn Cooper. The school had a day in her honor, with the help of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, where she could come back and visit the school as a princess at a school-wide assembly. The school also created a Go Fund Me page for Miss Cooper's medical expenses which has raised over $11,000. In addition, Owen Scholastic named a garden in Brooklyn Cooper's honor; and
WHEREAS, Brooklyn leaves behind an incredibly loving and supportive mother, father and brother; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this tenth day of February, 2016, do hereby extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Brooklyn Cooper; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the family of Brooklyn Cooper as a sign of our sympathy.
