RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE CREATION OF HONORARY CARMIE
SHOES WAY
WHEREAS, Mr. Carmen DeLaurentis was an outstanding Chicagoan who passed away in 2016; his remarkable life deserves to be commemorated; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel Solis, Alderman of the 25th Ward, has apprised this august body ofthis man's achievements; and
WHEREAS, Carmen DeLaurentis was one of ten children. His four sisters were Dolores, Philomena, Mary and Madeline. He had five brothers: Anthony, Ferdinardo, Nick, Sam and Joseph; and
WHEREAS, He served with distinction in the United States Army in World War II. He went to work as a truck driver and was a member of the Chicago Truck Drivers Union and Teamsters Union Local 705; and
WHEREAS, Carmen was known as "Carmie Shoes." He lived his entire life in Little Italy and was a lifetime parishioner at the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii. Carmen was a diehard White Sox fan; and
WHEREAS, He was active in the community. In recognition of his contributions, in 1997 he received the Donald C. Piemonte Man of the Year award for community service; and
WHEREAS, Carmen had a wonderful sixty-eight year marriage to Anne (DiLorenzo) DeLaurentis. From this blessed union were bom two children, Theresa (Andrew Tufano) and Angel (Leonard, Sr.) Lanzito. He cherished his grandchildren, Frank Meccia, Anthony (Sara) Meccia, Leonard, Jr (Margherita), Dino Lanzito, Anthony (Mary) Lanzito and Deanna Lanzito. He adored his great-grandchildren, Carmen, Toni, Bianca and Raffaele; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of Carmen DeLaurentis' contributions to the City of Chicago, there will be established Carmie Shoes Way at 1074 West Vernon Park Place, scheduled to be unveiled on May 19, 2018; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 28th day of March, 2018, do hereby recognize the contributions of Carmen DeLaurentis by establishing Carmie Shoes Way at 1074 West Vernon Park Place.
