RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Norma I. Reyes has retired as Commissioner of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection, Consumer Services, and Buildings for the City of Chicago following thirty years of distinguished public service,; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Norma I. Reyes was appointed Commissioner in 2008 and her responsibilities included the oversight of licensure for Chicago's businesses and public vehicles, and education on and enforcement of laws which protect consumers and businesses from unfair marketplace practices; and
WHEREAS, As Commissioner, Norma I. Reyes developed an online alert system for recalled toys, and brokered a fifty-two million dollar settlement between the City of Chicago and a cable company that had defaulted on its responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, Before beginning her tenure with the City of Chicago, Norma I. Reyes earned her law degree from the University of Notre Dame and served as a prosecutor in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office; and
WHEREAS, Norma I. Reyes is a valued member of both the American and Puerto Rican Bar Associations, as well as the International Association of Transportation Regulators and the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of July, 2011, do hereby express our gratitude to Norma I. Reyes for her thirty years of public service, and do hereby wish her well in her future endeavors; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Norma I. Reyes.
