RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, On November 1, 2013, Dr. Kwang-Wu Kim will be sworn in as President and Chief Executive Officer of Columbia College Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, Dr. Kwang-Wu Kim received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Yale University and a doctorate of musical arts and an artist diploma from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University; and
WHEREAS, A student of legendary pianist and conductor Leon Fleisher, Dr. Kwang-Wu Kim has held positions at prestigious musical institutions in the United States and abroad; and
WHEREAS, As Dean and Director of the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University, where he was also a tenured professor of music, Dr. Kwang-Wu Kim led a faculty and staff of 500 that served nearly 6,000 students; and
WHEREAS, A founding member of the steering committee for the Alliance for Arts in the Research University, Dr. Kwang-Wu Kim has played a key role in integrating the arts into research, curriculum and student experience at our nation's institutes of higher learning; and
WHEREAS, With more than three decades of experience in performance, teaching and administration, Dr. Kwang-Wu Kim has the practical, artistic and professional expertise to lead Columbia College Chicago and maintain its outstanding reputation for excellence; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby congratulate Dr. Kwang-Wu Kim on his inauguration as the tenth President of Columbia College Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Kwang-Wu Kim.
