RESOLUTION HONORING ELIZABETH LERNER FOR HER NEARLY 30 YEARS OF

PUBLIC SERVICE

 

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lerner served the citizens of the City of Chicago over a nearly 30 year career in public service, showing honesty, integrity, and dedication to this city and its people; and

 

WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of her years of service by Alderman Debra L. Silverstein; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lerner began her work in public service at the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in 1984. She remained there for six years, until she left for a brief foray into the private sector in 1990; and

 

WHEREAS, Public service called to Elizabeth Lerner once again in 1992, and she began to work for the City of Chicago - a calling that would last for the next 24 years until her retirement. She began working with the Chicago Police Department as a criminal analyst in the Records Department until 1996; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1996, Elizabeth Lerner transitioned to the Office of Professional Standards, the precursor of the Independent Police Review Authority. She began her career as an investigator, was promoted to supervisor, and ultimately, Deputy Chief Administrator, Chief Investigator. While at the Independent Police Review Authority, she advanced the important mission of improving the transparency and accountability of the Chicago Police Department; and

 

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Lerner retired on January 15, 2016 after nearly 30 years of public service. She showed her dedication by faithfully serving the citizens of the city she loved; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of
Chicago, assembled this thirteenth day of March, 2019, do hereby express our heartiest
appreciation to Elizabeth Lerner on her years of service to the City of Chicago and its
citizens.
