RESOLUTION CELEBRATING TOM MALONEY'S 90™ BIRTHDAY



WHEREAS, The members of the Chicago City Council wish to congratulate Thomas Joseph Maloney on his recent 90th birthday; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been notified of Thomas Maloney's milestone birthday by the Honorable Matthew J. O'Shea, Alderman of the 19th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Joseph Maloney was born on September 11, 1928, one of eight children. He grew up in the Beverly neighborhood, attended St. Barnabas Elementary School and graduated from St. Ignatius High School. Thomas, known as Tom, then went to Marquette University where he was active in the Navy ROTC; and

WHEREAS, Tom served with distinction in the United States Army during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, Tom went to work for Ford Motor Company in Chicago in the Aircraft Engineer Division. He then moved to Dallas to work for Braniff Airlines; and

WHEREAS, While in Dallas, Tom met and fell in love with his future wife, Margaret, an Illinois native. They lived for many years in Long Beach, Indiana, and Tom commuted to Chicago to work as a medical group administrator; and
WHEREAS, Tom and Margaret had a daughter, Maureen, and a son, Michael. Maureen is married to Brian White and lives in the South Loop neighborhood. Michael is married to Cindy and lives in Dallas with their two children, Connor and Kelly. Margaret has since passed away; and

WHEREAS, When Tom retired he started "Tom's Toffee." The business shipped delicious toffee throughout the country. He has now returned to live in the Beverly neighborhood; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 20th day of September, 2018, do hereby express our congratulations to Thomas Joseph Maloney on reaching his 90th birthday.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Thomas Joseph Maloney as an expression of our congratulations.
