RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On February 24, 2018 the Republic of Estonia celebrated its 100^th Anniversary; and

v.

WHEREAS, On February 23,1918, the Salvation Committee of the Estonian National Council issued the Estonian Declaration of Independence; and

WHEREAS, The manifesto of Estonian independence was first read to the Estonian people at eight o'clock in the evening from the balcony of Endla Theatre in Parnu; and

WHEREAS, On February 24,1918, Estonia was publicly proclaimed an independent and democratic republic; and

WHEREAS, The Republic of Estonia has since built a vibrant democracy and new prosperity; and

WHEREAS, Chicago shares a friendship with the people of the Republic of Estonia based on a shared embrace of mutual values; and now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of January, 2019, hereby officially commemorate the 100^th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Estonia; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Estonia in Chicago.
