WHEREAS, Arthur E. Canty served as an engineer custodian in the Chicago Public School System from February 1922, until his death, August 9,1946; and
WHEREAS, During this period he held numerous positions of trust among his professional associates including, President of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 143, Municipal Employees Annuity and Benefit Fund Trustee, Municipal Employees Society of Chicago Executive Committee member, Administrative Assistant to the City of Chicago Office of Civilian Defense during World War II, and Commander of the Board of Education Post No. 471 of the Illinois American Legion; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Nicholas Sposato, Alderman of the 36th Ward, will establish the 3700 block of North Panama as honorary "Arthur E. Canty Way"; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled this 5th day of March 2014 A.D., do hereby express our sincere gratitude to the accomplishments of Arthur E. Canty; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Arthur E. Canty.
