RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Susan Farmer has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-one; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Susan Farmer was the loving and devoted wife of Malcolm; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Susan Farmer was the much-adored mother of Heidi and Stephanie to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Elected Secretary of State in 1982, the Honorable Susan Farmer was the first woman to hold statewide office in Rhode Island; and
WHEREAS, After serving two terms as Secretary of State, the Honorable Susan Farmer spent two decades as President and Chief Executive Officer of Rhode Island's public television station; and
WHEREAS, An ardent advocate for gender equality in politics, the Honorable Susan Farmer served on the Board of Elections for many years and was a mentor to other women; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Susan Farmer serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Susan Farmer to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Susan Farmer imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Susan Farmer for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Susan Farmer.
