RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Baker has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 88; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Huntsville, Tennessee, the Honorable Howard Baker was the loving husband of the Honorable Nancy Landon Kassebaum and the late Joy; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Baker was the much-adored father of two children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Baker served as the Vice Chairman of the Watergate hearings in 1973 that led to the impeachment of President Richard M. Nixon; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Baker will long be remembered for the famous question posed at the hearings: "What did the President know and when did he know it?"; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Baker later served as Senate Majority leader, Chief of Staff to President Ronald Reagan and elder statesman of the Republican Party; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Baker was known as the "Great Conciliator" for his ability to broker political compromises and enact legislation; and
WHEREAS, In 2001 President George W. Bush appointed the Honorable Howard Baker to serve as Ambassador to Japan; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Baker served as Senior Counsel at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz; and
WHEREAS, In his private life, the Honorable Howard Baker was an accomplished amateur photographer; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Howard Baker serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Howard Baker will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Howard Baker imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
