RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Ruth Pfau, known as "Pakistan's Mother Teresa," has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age 87; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Pfau was a Daughter of the Heart of Mary nun and a German physician who devoted her life to the eradication of leprosy in Pakistan; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Pfau played a key role in efforts by Pakistan and the World Health Organization to bring leprosy under control, a disease which remained a problem from the 1950s until 1996; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Pfau will forever be known as a "beacon of hope for underprivileged" people; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Ruth Pfau serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Ruth Pfau to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Ruth Pfau imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of September, 2017, do hereby commemorate Ruth Pfau for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ruth Pfau.
