RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Brother Leo V. Ryan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 89; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Brother Leo V. Ryan was a widely respected member of the religious community who enjoyed a long and varied career as an educator and administrator; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Waukon, Iowa, Brother Leo V. Ryan joined the Clerics of St. Viator and completed an extensive education that included a doctorate in management and educational administration; and

 

WHEREAS, Brother Leo V. Ryan became the first President of St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights in 1972; and

 

WHEREAS, Brother Leo V. Ryan left the school in 1974 to become Dean of the Business College at the University of Notre Dame; and

 

WHEREAS, From 1980 to 1985, Brother Leo V. Ryan was the Dean of the College of Commerce and Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University; and

 

WHEREAS, Brother Leo V. Ryan went on to serve in roles at a number of universities in Europe before his retirement in 1999; and

 

WHEREAS, Brother Leo V. Ryan authored eight books and wrote more than 500 article on business and economic development; and

 

WHEREAS, The integrity and dedication of Brother Leo V. Ryan serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, Brother Leo V. Ryan will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Brother Leo V. Ryan imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of July, 2016, do hereby commemorate Brother Leo V. Ryan for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Brother Leo V. Ryan.
