Title: Tribute to late Allie Mae Haymer

WHEREAS, On Monday, December 17, 2012, the Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom called to her eternal journey Allie Mae Haymer; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed ofthis by 18th Ward Alderman Lona Lane; and
WHEREAS, Allie Mae (Lane) Haymer was born on October 2, 1932 in Sand Slough of Forrest City, Arkansas to the union of James Lane and Luella Lane Green; and
WHEREAS, Allie lived a fruitful childhood and loved being around family and friends. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age at Sand Slough Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Rising Sun Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. H. Hunt. She remained a loyal member until her death. On August 12, 1952 at the early age of 20, she married the love of her life, Virge Lee Haymer, from this union six children were born; and
WHEREAS, Allie Haymer was able to display her cooking skills with her very first job working as a cook at the Fifth Wheel Restaurant. She later began working at General Industries in which she was one ofthe first 17 African Americans hired. She faithfully worked there for over eighteen years until retirement. After retirement from General Industries, Allie and her husband opened a soul food restaurant called "Mom's Kitchen" and worked there until their health began to fail; and
WHEREAS, Allie spent countless hours volunteering in the church and studying the word of God. She loved to sing. In her youth and as a young adult, she was known for being the soloist at the church. Her voice was impeccable. She faithfully attended Sunday school, Baptist Training Union and was a member ofthe missionary society. Her favorite hobbies included gardening, canning, cooking and quilting but her passion was truly helping others. She fueled that passion through her culinary skills which were appreciated by many in the neighborhood.
