RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Aida I. Martinez, was born on September 24th, 1957 in the city of Chicago inside a taxi cab on the way to the hospital. Her father's reaction was "she's coming out early" and he wasn't quite prepared to react. Fortunately, the taxi driver was helpful in the delivery; and,
WHEREAS, Her parents, Inocencia and Juan Gomez, had recently moved to Chicago. She was a homemaker already raising an infant daughter. He had just left the US Navy and was working as cook in downtown area hotels. They resided in the Lincoln Park area. Their family expanded to eventually have 3 daughters, including Aida, and one son; and,
WHEREAS, Growing up, Aida became a die-hard Cubs and Blackhawks fan and played sports and excelled in academics; and,
WHEREAS, Aida would reside in Chicago until her teenage years when the family moved back to Puerto Rico for a span of years, but this move was short lived; and,
WHEREAS, Aida and her family came back to Chicago in the late 70's where they continue to reside today. Aida took a job working in a bowling alley, while enrolling in local beauty pageants; and,
WHEREAS, Aida began a family of her own beginning on Christmas Day, 1980 with the arrival of her eldest daughter whom she named after her. This was followed by the arrival of her second child, her son Juan (whom she named after her father) a few days shy of his delivery date, Valentine's Day 1983. He, like his mom, was also an early delivery, or so the joke goes as she tells relatives; and,
WHEREAS, Aida spent much of her time going to school and raising her children. She eventually met her future husband Domingo Martinez and they moved in together to raise all of their children. Domingo had 3 children from previous marriages; and,
WHEREAS, After the children were all school aged, Aida began looking for a job and eventually got hired by the city of Chicago in October of 1995 as a parking enforcement aide. In May 1997, about a year in a half into her job, the Director's ...
