RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Arthur N. Hamilton has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-three; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Arthur N. Hamilton served as the Presiding Judge of the Cook County's Juvenile Court Division from 1981 until his retirement in 1992; and
WHEREAS, Known for his compassion, the Honorable Arthur N. Hamilton spent twenty years helping troubled children find the path to a better life; and
WHEREAS, Born in New Orleans, the Honorable Arthur N. Hamilton moved with his family to Chicago during the Depression, and was forced to drop out of high school to help provide financial support; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Arthur N. Hamilton served in the National Guard during World War II; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Arthur N. Hamilton eventually returned to school and earned a law degree while working full-time; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Arthur N. Hamilton gained legal experience working in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, and the Chicago Park District; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Arthur N. Hamilton was elevated to the bench in 1971, and in 1981 was appointed presiding judge for Cook County's Juvenile Court Division, then the second largest division of its kind in the nation; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Arthur N. Hamilton was the devoted husband for more than seventy years of the late Mary E.; and
WHEREAS, To his son, Guy, and his daughter, Lisa, the Honorable Arthur N. Hamilton imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this ninth day of February, 2011, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Arthur N. Hamilton for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
