RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Gerald "Red" Dwyer has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Forest Park, Gerald "Red" Dwyer was a proud member of Plumber's Union Local 130; and
WHEREAS, A third-generation Irish plumber, Gerald "Red" Dwyer was raised on the West Side in old St. Mel's Parish; and
WHEREAS, Gerald "Red" Dwyer served his country as a member of the United States Army in Germany following World War II; and
WHEREAS, An influential leader in the Irish-American community, Gerald "Red" Dwyer planned St. Patrick's Day Masses and corned beef dinners for the St. Patrick's Day Parade which is sponsored by the plumber's union; and
WHEREAS, A man of great wit, Gerald "Red" Dwyer was also an active and popular member of the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Gerald "Red" Dwyer also helped to launch the first annual Old St. Pat's Church Block Party which is now billed as the "World's Largest Block Party"; and
WHEREAS, Gerald "Red" Dwyer operated Dwyer Plumbing which did plumbing repairs for many churches and was on a first-name basis with Catholic pastors throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Gerald "Red" Dwyer serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Gerald "Red" Dwyer to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his six children, Mark, Kerry Ann, Cynthia, Gerald, Gregory and Colleen, his thirteen grandchildren and his three greatgrandchildren, Gerald "Red" Dwyer imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
