CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO DISTRICT 1-A LIONS CLUBS FOR THEIR HELEN KELLER ANNUAL 5K FUN RUN/WALK FOR SIGHT.
WHEREAS, This year's District 1-A Lions - Helen Keller Annual 5k Fun Run/Walk for Sight will be held on Sunday May 22, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this special occasion by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman ofthe 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service organization, with headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois and membership of over 1,350,000 people in over 206 countries around the world; and
WHEREAS, Helen Keller, an integral part of the history of Lionism as it is today, came to a Lions meeting in 1925 and asked the Lions to "be the Knights of the Blind"; and
WHEREAS, District 1-A Lions Helen Keller Annual 5K Fun Run/Walk for Sight is the second annual run/walk, held for the first time at the Oak Lawn site, is open to the public, joining together Lion Club members and friends, taking advantage of the Wolf Wildlife scenic area route, and
WHEREAS, All proceeds of the Run/Walk go towards funding of the District Lions Clubs Open Area's account, serving people where there is not a local Lions Club; the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind who provides services for Veterans, infant to adult vision or hearing impaired plus provides job placement and training; and the Lions of Illinois Foundation that provides 14 programs serve the visually and hearing impaired and handicapped sending them to summer camp; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this fourth day of May, 2011, do hereby congratulate the District 1-A Lions - Helen Keller Annual 5K Fun Run/Walk for Sight and extend our best wishes for continuing success; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the District 1 -A Lions - Helen Keller Annual 5K Fun Run/Walk for Sight.
