RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Edward Kuske is retiring as a Court Advocacy organizer in the Chicago Police Department's 20th and 24th Districts; and
WHEREAS, The Court Advocacy program, in place within all 25 police districts, tracks cases of interest to the community. Court Advocates play an important role in advancing the goals of making our neighborhoods safer. These volunteers provide support for victims and witnesses who may be hesitant to testify in court, and attend relevant court dates; and
WHEREAS, The presence of Court Advocacy volunteers from a victim's community can make the difference in whether that victim decides to appear in court, and in the ultimate outcome of the case; and
WHEREAS, Ed has served as a mentor and role model to other Court Advocacy coordinators in his recruitment and training of Court Advocates; and
WHEREAS, Ed has conducted Court Advocate training sessions for the Chicago Police Department's 20th District and State's Attorney's Community Justice Center; and
WHEREAS, Ed has attended over a thousand hearings in the Cook County Criminal Courts at 26th and California, Harrison, and Belmont/Western in Chicago and in Skokie; and
WHEREAS, Ed has meticulously maintained monthly records, status, and results of dozens of cases being followed by Court Advocates in the Chicago Police Department's 20th and 24th Districts; and
WHEREAS, Ed has demonstrated outstanding leadership and community involvement as President of the Castlewood Terrace Association, Beat 2024 CAPS Civilian Facilitator, CPD 20th District Advisory Council, member of the Uptown Chicago Commission, and co-Chairman of the 48th Ward Master Plan Public Safety Committee, and has supported police, victims and witnesses in court; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby honor Edward Kuske for his many contributions that have led to the reduction of crime in the Uptown ...
