Resolution Honoring the Life of Dr. Rebekkah A. Ross
WHEREAS, On April 19, 2011, Dr. Rebekkah A. Ross was called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ross was born David and Ruthie Ross in Gary, Indiana;
WHEREAS, Dr. Ross attended Morgan Park Academy in Chicago through her junior year of high school; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ross demonstrated exceptional academic ability and dedication while graduating with honors from Butler University and obtaining her medical degree from Meharry Medical College; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ross' many social initiatives included offering Girl Talk, a program designed to provide young girls with important information on sexual health; and
WHEREAS, she faithfully served the people of Gary, Indiana as a physician alongside her father Dr. David Ross, brother Dr. Nathaniel Ross, and sister Dr. Rachel Ross; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ross was responsible for the creation of Rebuilding Families, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting young girls in Gary to improve their education and self-esteem; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ross was united in Holy Matrimony to Travis Swoope on May 6, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ross was a loving mother of and positive role model for her daughter Amelia Hadley Swoope
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the City Council members ofthe City of Chicago assembled this fourth day May, 2011, do hereby commemorate Dr. Rebekkah A. Ross for her life of grace and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Rebekkah A. Ross
