MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of the Honorable John A. Rice, on May 30, 2015, at the age of forty-seven; and
 
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Born on May 3,1968, the Honorable John A. Rice was the beloved husband of Marijo (nee Demma); loving and devoted dad of his two precious daughters, Amanda and Amy; dear brother of Denise (Jim) Poelsterl and Michael; cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews; treasured brother-in-law and adored cousin to many; and faithful friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. John leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Rice had a very distinguished career, serving as Alderman of the 36th Ward of the City of Chicago, a City Zoning Inspector, a trusted aide to Alderman William J. P. Banks, and an employee of the Illinois Department of Transportation; John was very passionate about his work, and respected the people he had the pleasure of working with; and
 
WHEREAS, Most of all, John worshiped and adored his family which he made a priority in his life; He touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, his generosity, his heart and his spirit; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable John A. Rice will be deeply missed but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore.
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this seventeenth day of June, 2015, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of the Honorable John A. Rice and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
 
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable John A. Rice.
