RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Timothy F. "Tim" Degnan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Devoted husband ofthe late Sandra (nee Steigerwald), son ofthe late Francis J. and Bernice (nee Hogan), loving father of Julie, Timothy (Sue), Patricia (Dan) Woods, Jack (Liza), Michael (Amy) and Daniel (Cindi), cherished Papa of Samantha (Mike Owcarz), Daniel (Julia) Woods, Michael Woods, Caitlyn, Emily, Maggie, Erin, Lexi, Lindsay, Makayla, Maura, Meghan, Grace and Addison, brother of Patrick, the late Richard and the late Robert, and fond uncle to many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Tim was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended St. Ignatius College Prep, then attended to the University of Illinois and Illinois Institute of Technology; and
WHEREAS, After Richard M. Daley was elected Cook County State's Attorney in the 1980 general election, Tim was appointed by the 23rd District Democratic Legislative Committee to succeed Daley in the 81st General Assembly serving in the Illinois Senate from 1980 to 1989; and
WHEREAS, In 1989, Tim served as Mayor Daley's Director of Intergovernmental Affairs; and
WHEREAS, As Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, Tim played an important role in obtaining state legislative approval for the $1 billion expansion of McCormick Place, raising more than $205 million in state funds for local street resurfacing, and forging a reliable City Council majority; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Tim imparts a legacy of generosity, compassion, devotion to family and unwavering faith in God; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this fourteenth day of December, 2022, do hereby commemorate Tim for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
