RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, James G. Serpe has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-seven; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Des Plaines, James G. Serpe was a widely admired educator and the loving husband of Anita G., nee Foggia; and

WHEREAS, James G. Serpe was the much-adored father of Susan, Stephen, Anita, Amy, Gerard, Camille and the late John and Jimmy, the grandfather of seven and the great-grandfather of one; and

WHEREAS, The son of Italian immigrants, James G. Serpe was raised in Chicago's Little Italy neighborhood and graduated from St. Ignatius High School and Loyola University; and

WHEREAS, James G. Serpe was a gifted and well-loved mathematics teacher at St. Ignatius High School from 1942 to 1955, at Sacred Heart Seminary froml955 to 1963 and at Loyola Academy from 1963 to 2008; and

WHEREAS, A highly popular figure in the classroom, James G. Serpe was known for his flashy suits and memorable teaching techniques; and

WHEREAS, James G. Serpe received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Georgetown University; and

WHEREAS, James G. Serpe was a recipient of a lifetime teaching award from the Mathematics Teachers' Association of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Following a long and highly distinguished career, James G. Serpe retired at the age of ninety-two; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James G. Serpe serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared James G. Serpe to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, James G. Serpe will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James G. Serpe imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
