TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF JOHNSON W. TORREY
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom, has granted his devout servant, Mr. Johnson W. Torrey, to his everlasting reward; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson W. Torrey was born October 11, 1939 in Chicago to the late James and Polly Torrey. At a young age, he attended St. Paul Church of God and Christ and gave praise to the Lord. He also became a member of Zion Lutheran Church; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson W. Torrey received his elementary education at Brownnell School and graduated from Parker High School. He attened Northwestern University and received hisbachlor of Science Degree. Serving his country proudly in the United States Army from April 23,1963 to 1965, Mr. Johnson W. Torrey received an Honorable Discharge; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson W. Torrey and the former Jerline Everett were united in holy matrimony and to this union they were blessed with the birth of two children, Jarrett Kendall and Jessica Kara; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Torrey was a dedicated worker at Central in Communications for the past twenty years, prior to that he was employed at Harris Bank and was employed with the Board of Education and worked at Corliss and Warren Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Torrey retired to spend more quality time with his family and friends, but he was an active individual who volunteered to help within his community. Mr. Torrey remained busy with the CAPS Program, DAC meetings with the police department, Court Advocacy and the Silver Eagles Senior Group, and he was the Block President. Every school year, he enjoyed putting packets of school supplies for the children. Mr. Torrey enjoyed traveling, the highlight of his travels was to Vietnam and China; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson W. Torrey had a passion for shopping, food, clothes and estate sales. He was a very considerate man who would not only do his own shopping but would help others by shopping for them; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson W. Torrey was loved very much by everyone that knew him. ...
