Resolution
Whereas, Linda Bubon and Ann Christopherson have operated Women & Children First at5233 N. Clark St., in Andersonville since 1979; and
Whereas, The City Council has been notified of their retirement and the store's new ownership by The Honorable Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48th Ward; and
Whereas, Women & Children First was the first independent bookstore opened in Andersonville and is a feminist bookstore that promotes women authors, and books with lesbian and gay themes; and
Whereas, Women & Children First has been an Andersonville and community anchor for 30 years, serving readers, kids, families and the gay and lesbian community; and,
Whereas, Linda and Ann have run an incredible shop, have supported numerous causes and businesses throughout the Andersonville neighborhood, and have advocated for independent bookstores and locally-owned businesses on a national level; and,
Whereas, Longtime employees Lynn Mooney and Sarah Hollenbeck are the new owners of Women & Children First and plan to continue the store's mission and values; and
Whereas, On Saturday, October 11th, 2014, Alderman Harry Osterman will unveil the honorary street sign designating Clark Street and Farragut Avenue 'Women & Children First Way' in honor of Ann and Linda's positive impact and legacy. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved, that we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this day October 8, 2014, do hereby honor Linda Bubon and Ann Christopherson; and
