RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Harold "Hal" Baron has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the Edgewater community, Dr. Harold "Hal" Baron was the loving and devoted husband for 63 years of Paula; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Harold "Hal" Baron was the much-adored father of three children, the grandfather of six and the great-grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Harold "Hal" Baron earned a PhD in history from the University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, A pioneer in the area of race relations, Dr. Harold "Hal" Baron became a widely admired educator, policy advisor and political strategist; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Harold "Hal" Baron was widely recognized as a key advisor to the late Mayor Harold Washington and was involved in almost every aspect of the Mayor's policy decisions; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Harold "Hal" Baron serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. Harold "Hal" Baron to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dr. Harold "Hal" Baron imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of February, 2017, do hereby commemorate Dr. Harold "Hal" Baron for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
