WHEREAS, Juanita Y. Douglas has served the people of Chicago for 25 years as an employee
of Chicago Public Schools teaching our city's youth on the subjects of
sciences; ^ . r.
WHEREAS, Juanita Douglas earned both a State of Illinois Master Teaching certificate and the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards Early Adolescence certificate to prove her commitment as a lifelong learner;
WHEREAS, She was given the Kathy Osterman Outstanding Educational Employee Award in honor ofthe late Mayor Harold Washington for her achievements.as an educator at Lincoln Park High School, because of her leadership and selfless contributions to her students;
WHEREAS, Juanita Douglas served for two years on the Teacher Leadership Advisory Council to former Chicago Public School CEO Arne Duncan, and was part of the team that received the largest competitive federal grant ever received by Chicago Public Schools;
WHEREAS, She designed and implemented the "Empowerment Through Education" Heritage and Curriculum Fair for the American Federation of Teachers Black Caucus Chicago Chapter to ensure that K-12 educators were able to provide students with learning activities aligned with the Illinois State Common Core Standards and the Chicago Framework for Teaching and Learning Standards;

WHEREAS, Juanita Douglas has been a 20-year member of Education Institute of the HistoryMakers, the nation's only African American oral history archive, contributing educational programming and materials using the digital archive and website. Her work has received national awards and she was a featured speaker in the "Digital Innovation Meets the Black Experience" in Washington, D.C., as part of the HistoryMakers Library of Congress Program;
