RESOLUTION DECLARING MAY 17-23, 2020 AS NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK
WHEREAS, National Public Works Week, a week celebrating public works professionals and educating the public about the value and necessity of public works projects, will take place the week of May 17 -May 23, 2020; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed ofthis national event by the Honorable Brian Hopkins, Alderman ofthe 2nd Ward; and
WHEREAS, Every year since 1960, the American Public Works Association and the Canadian Public Works Association, and their combined 30,000 members, have sponsored National Public Works Week in an effort to energize and educate the public on the importance of public works in the daily lives of residents across all communities; and
WHEREAS, The infrastructure, facilities, and services that support Chicago's high quality of life would not exist without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals, which include engineers, managers, field workers, and employees at all levels of government; and
WHEREAS, Even in these trying times, public works employees continue working and are responsible for rebuilding, improving, and protecting our nation's transportation infrastructure, water supply, water treatment, solid waste systems, public buildings, and other structures and facilities essential to our residents; and

WHEREAS, It is in the public's interest for the residents, civic leaders, and children in the City of Chicago to gain knowledge and maintain a progressive interest in and understanding ofthe importance of public works and public works programs in our communities; now, therefore
