RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Michael D. O'Halleran has officially retired as the Executive Chairman and Founder of Aon Benfield, the largest reinsurance brokerage and capital advisory firm in the world; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Aon Benfield has operations in more than 50 countries and more than 4,000 employees; and
WHEREAS, Michael D. O'Halleran previously served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Aon Corporation and held senior operating positions throughout his 40 year career in the insurance and reinsurance industry; and
WHEREAS, A widely admired business and civic leader, Michael D. O'Halleran is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Ellis Island Award, the American Ireland Person of the Year Award and the American Ireland Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, Michael D. O'Halleran is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and the Commercial Club of Chicago and serves on the boards of NuVasive, Inc., Providence St. Mel School, Dublin City University, the American Ireland Funds and the Goodman Theatre; and,
WHEREAS, Michael D. O'Halleran graduated from the University of Wisconsin-White water with a degree in accounting and finance; and
WHEREAS, On the occasion of his retirement, Aon President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Case lauded Michael D. O'Halleran for leaving "a lasting legacy as a founder, business builder, client adviser and mentor"; and
WHEREAS,- Michael D. O'Halleran is an individual who is extremely worthy of our great admiration and esteem; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Michael D. O'Halleran serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of January, 2018, do hereby congratulate Michael D. O'Halleran on his retirement from Aon Benfield; and
