RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Herbert M. Kraus has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 95; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Herbert M. Kraus was a longtime Chicago publicist and educator; and

WHEREAS, Raised in Indiana where his family operated a successful restaurant supplies store, Herbert M. Kraus graduated from the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Herbert M. Kraus served his country in the South Pacific during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart; and

WHEREAS, Herbert M. Kraus founded Herbert M. Kraus & Company in 1954 and became one of Chicago's best known publicists; and

WHEREAS, Herbert M. Kraus worked with the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. at a 1966 civil rights rally at Soldier Field; and

WHEREAS, Herbert M. Kraus' long list of clients included Tommy Bartlett's Water Show, Vienna Sausage, Inland Steel, the Harry S. Truman Library, Marina City and Bresler's Ice Cream; and

WHEREAS, In 2006 the Publicity Club of Chicago bestowed a Lifetime Achievement Award upon Herbert M. Kraus in recognition of his many contributions to the industry; and

WHEREAS, Herbert M. Kraus taught public relations for many years at Columbia College in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Herbert M. Kraus serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Herbert M. Kraus to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his two daughters, Gale and Claudia, his four grandchildren and his two great-grandchildren, Herbert M. Kraus imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of June, 2017, do hereby commemorate Herbert M. Kraus for his grace-filled life...
