RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura was a widely admired Chicago restaurateur and the loving husband of Nobuko; and
WHEREAS, For the past 33 years, Yoshi Katsumura operated Yoshi's Cafe at 3257 North Halsted Street which became one of the most important restaurants in the Lake View community; and
WHEREAS, Through his highly successful eatery, Yoshi Katsumura infused life into the neighborhood by making his eatery a much sought-after destination for food lovers citywide; and
WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura first offered luxury French-Asian fusion cuisine before changing to a more casual and affordable menu to keep pace with the market; and
WHEREAS, Before opening Yoshi's Cafe in 1982, Yoshi Katsumura gained experience at some of the Chicago area's most notable restaurants, including Le Francais and Le Bastille, and joined the late Jimmy Rohr to open Jimmy's Place; and
WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura generously supported charities and hosted fundraising dinners benefiting victims of the earthquake in Japan and pediatric AIDS research; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Yoshi Katsumura serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Yoshi Katsumura to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Yoshi Katsumura was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Yoshi Katsumura imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of September 2015, do hereby commemorat...
