A Resolution Commemorating Jabberwock 2016, A Scholarship Affaire - DREAM CATCHERS: From Scholarship to Service
WHEREAS, For 26 years, D'Estee, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) and the Chicago Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., has provided over $500,000 in scholarships to Chicago Public Schools seniors who are college-bound in keeping with the sorority's commitment to address a key barrier to postsecondary education - college affordability; and
WHEREAS, D'Estee, Inc., the non-profit arm, and the Chicago Alumnae Chapter work diligently to support and provide leadership in programming designed to enhance the quality of life in Chicago communities and the neighboring suburbs of Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn; and
WHEREAS, D'Estee Inc. remains committed to providing service to the community through activities such as educational and career development, scholarships, mental health, political action, cultural events and adult literacy; and
WHEREAS, Jabberwock: A Scholarship Affaire is a bi-annual fundraiser and a crucial component of community outreach and commitment to our youth; and
WHEREAS, This year's event, DREAM CATCHERS: From Scholarship to Service is designed to increase public awareness of the educational enrichment of our city through the awarding of college scholarships; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of the importance of educational scholarships in the lives of youth and the work done by D'Estee Inc. and the Chicago Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. to support our city's youth; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the City Council members of the City of Chicago hereby assembled on this the 16th day of March, 2016, do hereby thank D'Estee Inc. and the Chicago Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. for their work in the community and commemorate the Jabberwock: A Scholarship Affaire 2016 event - DREAM CATCHERS: From Scholarship to Service, and
