BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to Section 2-8-040, which allows erection of honorary street name designations, the Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation shall take the necessary action for standardization of West Division Street between North Wood Street and North Damen Avenue (1800 W Division St to 2000 W Division St) as

SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its passage and approval.

Gaspar Gomez became one of Chicago's first Latino Franchisee of a Shell Service Station when he started in 1968; then opening in 1977 he planted roots on the corner of Division & Damen he consistently raised the bar and set the standard for businesses in the Wicker Park neighborhood that has left a whole community remembering his kindness, work ethic and encouragement.
Mr. Gomez adapted and thrived over forty years; and received several honors and special recognitions from Shell for his commitment to excellence in merchandising and Customer Care; Mr. Gomez did not just profit from the neighborhood, he invested his time and energy into building our community; giving work opportunity to many over the years was important to him, he built long-standing jobs for some and instilled work values in others that have used that knowledge in their own workplace today. Gomez Shell sponsored and hosted many community events like the Wicker Park Chill Fest, Sidewalk Sales, Do Division Street Fest and Chicago Fashion Fest.
Mr. Gomez was a hard worker that prided himself in always acing mystery shopper reports, Self-Assessment and Face-to-face Inspections by always maintaining clean stocked shelves, freshly painted curbs, beautified landscaping, working pumps and making sure he could be an example for others.
