RESOLUTION HONORING THE LINCOLN PARK ZOO
WHEREAS, The Lincoln Park Zoo is an historic Chicago attraction founded in 1868, dedicated to connecting people with nature by providing a free, family-oriented wildlife experience; and
WHEREAS, The Lincoln Park Zoo is one of Chicago's most popular tourists attractions drawing thousands of visitors each year; and
WHEREAS, In 2010, the Lincoln Park Zoo launched their Nature Boardwalk which has been regarded as a model for urban ecosystem development. The Nature Boardwalk provides children and families additional education opportunities at the Lincoln Park Zoo while helping contribute to the natural ecosystem of the community and overall environmental awareness; and
WHEREAS, The Nature Boardwalk revitalizes what was once a dilapidated manmade pond will now provide shelter to native minnows, pumpkinseed, bluegill and largemouth bass, and more than 100 newly planted trees will provide shade, food, and ideal nesting for native and migratory birds; and
WHEREAS, On May 12 2011, the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce will honor the Lincoln Park Zoo at its annual awards luncheon as the 2011 LPCC Community Contributor to Lincoln Park.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 4th day of May, 2011 do hereby congratulate the Lincoln Park Zoo for its contributions to the community and the city and for being honored with the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce 2011 Community Contributor Award.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the Lincoln Park Zoo.
