RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago Fire Department will be celebrating Engine 123's 100 year anniversary on April 22, 2017; and,

WHEREAS, On November 16, 1916, Engine 123 was organized at 5218 South Western Avenue and was assigned to the 26th Battalion; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ambulance 8 was organized here on December 1, 1947; and,

 

WHEREAS, On January 17, 1974, Engine 123 and Ambulance 8 were relocated to their current location at 2215 West 51st Street and remained in the 26th Battalion and 7th Division. Mayor Richard J. Daley and Fire Commissioner Robert Quinn dedicated the new firehouse on April 3, 1974; and,

WHEREAS, Two days prior, Truck 39 was reorganized at Engine 123 (after its service from 1927 to 1969). In a management reorganization, Battalion 12 was renumbered as Battalion 19 It was then relocated from Engine 84 and moved to its current location at 2215 West 51st Street; and,

WHEREAS, On July 24, 1987, Truck 39 become Tower Ladder 39. On October 15, 2004, Smoke Ejector 922 was placed in service; and,

WHEREAS, Currently, besides Engine 123, the firehouse is home to Tower Ladder 39, Ambulance 8, and Battalion Chief 6 and is housed in the 1st District; and,

 

WHEREAS, Members from the firehouse who have made the ultimate sacrifice are Firefighter John P. Walsh, Truck 39 on May 10, 1935, 1503 West Harrison Street, and Captain Herbert Johnson, 5th District Relief - Engine 123 on November 2, 2012, 2315 West 50th Place; and now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this nineteenth day of April 2017 A.D., do hereby recognize and congratulate Chicago Fire Department Engine 123 and its members, past and present, on 100 years of service, to the residents of the Gage Park neighborhood; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation to the members of Engine 123.
