CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO WANDA YOUNG ON RETIREMENT AS A SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER AT NORTHSIDE LEARNING CENTER.
WHEREAS, Wanda Young, who began her teaching career as a special education teacher for the Chicago Public Schools in 1973, is retiring from the Northside Learning Center; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Wanda Young, began teaching primary students at what is now LaSalle Language Academy for three years, until the program was transferred to the Agassiz School, where she taught for five years; and
WHEREAS, Wanda Young, has been teaching high school students at the Northside Learning Center since 1981; and
WHEREAS, Wanda Young, served as the founding director of the Northside Learning Center Choir, sponsored the first Special Olympics track and field team, and the boys and girls basketball teams; and
WHEREAS, Wanda Young, served as a cooperative work-training teacher responsible for preparing the students of Northside Learning Center for the world of work as well as networking with potential employers, in addition to serving as Team Coordinator and Activities Coordinator; and
WHEREAS, The leaders of this great City of Chicago are cognizant of the great debt owed our Special Education Teachers; now therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eighth day of June, 2011, do hereby express our gratitude and heartiest congratulations to Wanda Young as she retires and we extend to this fine citizen our very best wishes for continuing success and fulfillment; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Wanda Young.
