CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO POLICE OFFICER MICHAEL L. SWEENEY, STAR #8577 ON RETIREMENT FROM CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, Police Officer Michael L. Sweeney, Star #8577, one of the City's most dedicated and loyal Police Officers, has retired from service with the Chicago Police Department; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Officer Sweeney, who hails from the Chicago Lawn neighborhood of St. Rita of Cascia Parish and is a graduate of Gage Park High School, began his career on February 14, 1983, serving out of the 3rd District Grand Crossing area; and
WHEREAS, In 1985, Officer Sweeney was transferred to the 1st District in the Loop under the Tactical Unit Division, taking part in operations that ranged from apprehending pick-pocketers preying on victims in the heart of the Loop shopping area to going undercover in various capacities throughout the District and;
WHEREAS, After his duration in the Tactical Unit, he was assigned to the City Hall detail to provide security for the building, city employees, city officials and the countless of citizens that entered the heart of Chicago's government center on a daily basis; and
WHEREAS, Because of Officer Sweeney's excellence in providing protection for the public at large with a kind heart, from 1998 to May 2012, he was assigned to provide outdoor security under two consecutive Chicago Mayors, the Honorable Richard M. Daley and the Honorable Rahm Emanuel, respectively; and
WHEREAS, Officer Sweeney has received various honorable mentions and awards throughout his time with the Department, expressing that he "never took a bad day in the Department" now; therefore,
