WHEREAS, On Saturday, January 17, 2015, the Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom called Genevieve Sullivan Mallory to her eternal journey; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Lona Mallory Lane, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Genevieve was born on August 17, 1929 to David Harold Sullivan and Geneva Kennedy; and
WHEREAS, she grew up in Simpsonville, South Carolina with her siblings. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. Genevieve was a high school state basketball champion for Taylor High; and
WHEREAS, after moving to Argo, Illinois she married Levan Mallory on January 24, 1953. She became a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Summit, Illinois where she made the communion bread, visited the sick and was known for her infectious smile and laughter. She was duly devoted to the care of the elder members of her family. She was an experienced seamstress and loved to crochet; and
WHEREAS, Genevieve was preceded in death by her loving husband, Levan; daughter, Laverne Doxie; parents, David Harold Sullivan and Geneva Kennedy; siblings, David Louis, Alberta, and Gladys; and leaves behind, to cherish her precious memories, her brother, Leonard Sullivan; her sister-in-laws, Jessie Wyrick, and Gladys Mallory; her children, Genice Pritchard, Darnetta Fleming, Thelma Mitchell (Michael), Annette Beauchamp, Herbert, Leandrew and Lee; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; special friends, Nellie Flemons and Gloria Gipson; a host of relatives, friends and church family; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this eighteenth day of March 2015 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Genevieve Sullivan Mallory and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
