RESOLUTION

Whereas, Congregation Or Chadash was formed in 1975 as in response to Chicago's Gay and Lesbian Jewish population's need for a religious haven, and

Whereas, over the course of 40 years the Or Chadash congregation has grown from a small group of gay men to over 80 families; men and women, gay and straight, transgender, and of varying religious backgrounds, and

Whereas, in 2007 Or Chadash was inducted in the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame, and

Whereas, Or Chadash took up residence in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood for 25 years, and moved to its current home at Emanuel Congregation in Edgewater, one of Chicago's most diversely populated neighborhoods, and

Whereas, the Honorable Harry Osterman has made us aware of this recognition;

Be it Resolved, that we The Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this day of April 15, 2015, do hereby honor Congregation Or Chadash for its 40 years of spiritual leadership and support to Chicago's growing Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender community.

Be it Further Resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Congregation Or Chadash.
