WHEKEAS, We in this city of immigrants, this city of neighljorhoods,
this mxrst American of ad cities arepar^ cognisant of the "A merican
Vream/'; and
WHEKEAS, Of the myriad available career 'paths toward fulfillment of that dream/, there are but a> few through/ which- faithful execution of responsibilities offers assurance that these who- choose other paths wdl in fact have a> legitimate opportunity to- achieve their portion/ of the Vream/; and
WH EKEAS, Though/ yearningly fixed and inviolable, the complex/social fabrCoofour great metropolis could be easily torn/asunder were it not for the guardians of the/public/ welfare, indeed, theguardianyofthe "A merican Vream)'; and
WH EKEAS, Vedixxuton to the fulfdlment of the motto of the- Chicago-Police/ Vepartment-"We Serve and Protect'' -exacts a/ yulyytantial phyyical and emotional tod not only on the-officerywho-mustdaily cope withthe/stress and danger of being- life's arbitery for countless citizens, but also on the family membery who-live withthe real knowledge that their husband or father may never return/ from any give workday; and
WHEKEAS, Through/ p rofessionalism/ and sacrifice, the membery ofthe Chixyago- police Vepartment have provided us with one of the safest cities in the united States of America, abbowing- eachof ustopursue our own/version of the "A merican V ream/" in safety arid confidence; and ^
