RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, David D. McCarrell has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-two; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of Wheaton, David D. McCarrell was a widely admired advocate for the homeless and the loving husband of Judy; and
 
WHEREAS, David D. McCarrell was the much-adored father of David, Cathryn, Caryn and Christine and the grandfather of thirteen to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, David D. McCarrell was the dear brother of James, Daniel and Ruth; and
 
WHEREAS, David D. McCarrell graduated from Wheaton College and was a member of the Coast Guard during the Korean War; and
 
WHEREAS, David D. McCarrell served as an educator and coach at Niles Township high schools before becoming the President of the Pacific Garden Mission; and
 
WHEREAS, As the head of Chicago's oldest and largest homeless shelter, David D. McCarrell oversaw its move in 2007 from an outdated structure to a new $27 million facility located at 1458 South Canal Street; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, compassion and dedication of David D. McCarrell serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, David D. McCarrell will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, David D. McCarrell imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of November, 2013, do hereby commemorate David D. McCarrell for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David D. McCarrell.
