RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Griffin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Griffin was a prominent Michigan legislator and jurist; and
WHEREAS, Born in Detroit, the Honorable Robert Griffin bravely served his country in the United States Army during World War II; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Griffin graduated from Central Michigan University and the University of Michigan Law School and practiced law in Traverse City before going on to lead an exemplary life of public service; and
WHEREAS, A Republican, the Honorable Robert Griffin served in the United States House of Representatives from 1957 to 1966 and withdrew his support from President Richard M. Nixon during the Watergate scandal; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Griffin was a member of the United States Senate from 1966 to 1979 and was a Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court from 1987 to 1994; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Robert Griffin serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Robert Griffin to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert Griffin was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Robert Griffin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of May, 2015, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Robert Griffin for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
