CONGRATULATING THE MARX FAMILY ON THE 100th YEAR ANNIVERSARY
OF NEW WORLD VAN LINES
WHEREAS, on March 7th, 2019, The Marx family will gather together with their family of employees and many friends, at Chicago's Drake Hotel, to joyously celebrate their 100th year of business as New World Van Lines; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of this significant event by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Michael Marx founded the family's moving company in 1919, as Economy Moving and Transfer, with one truck; a commitment to caring for people and their belongings; and, a steadfast determination to be the very best; and
WHEREAS, thirty-four years later, Edward M. Marx purchased Economy Moving from his father and, in 1982, after the moving industry was deregulated, went on to found New World Van Lines with his beloved wife, Shirley; and
WHEREAS, New World was granted authority to operate the company as a forty-eight state carrier; and in 1987, the Marx family established New World International, with the same dedication of serving customers' seamless relocation across the globe; and
WHEREAS, until his passing in 1995, Edward Marx oversaw the company's growth into one of the top fifteen household moving companies in the country; and
WHEREAS, after the loss of her dear husband, Shirley Marx, supported by her loving family, assumed responsibility for the company's leadership and now serves as New World Van Lines' Co-founder and Chairperson of the Board; and
WHEREAS, in 1999, as further demonstration of the New World Van Lines' commitment to be responsive to the needs of corporations and customers eager to support a diverse supply chain, earned the designation as a Women's Business Enterprise by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the nation's largest third-party certifier of businesses owned and operated by women;
