RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michel Rocard has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 85; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michel Rocard was a former Prime Minister of France and the loving husband of Sylvie; and
WHEREAS, Prime Minister Michel Rocard was the much-adored father of four children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Born in Courbevoie, Hauts-de-Seine, the Honorable Michel Rocard served as Prime Minister from 1988 to 1991 under Socialist President Francois Mitterrand; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michel Rocard was a popular leader who presided over a period of economic growth in France; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michel Rocard notably created a minimum allowance for poor people who had no other income; and
WHEREAS, Prior to becoming Prime Minister, the Honorable Michel Rocard served as Minister of Territorial Planning and Minister of Agriculture; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michel Rocard was a member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 2009; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Michel Rocard serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michel Rocard was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Michel Rocard imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of July, 2016, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Michel Rocard for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Michel Rocard.
