RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Anthony B. Vaughan was officially installed as Postmaster of Chicago on April 10, 2014, at a ceremony hosted by the Chicago Postal Customer Council; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Anthony B. Vaughan was sworn in as Postmaster of Chicago at a ceremony held at the Cardiss Collins Facility, 433 West Harrison Street; and

WHEREAS, Anthony B. Vaughan is the 46th official to serve in this high-ranking position since J.N. Bailey was named Chicago's first Postmaster in 1831; and

WHEREAS, Anthony B. Vaughan joins a long and illustrious list of prominent figures who have served as Chicago Postmaster, including Walter C. Newberry, Washington Hesing, Fred A. Busse and Harry H. Semrow; and

WHEREAS, As Postmaster of Chicago, Anthony B. Vaughan is responsible for mail delivery and retail sales at 48 delivery stations and carrier annexes and 29 retail-only facilities throughout the City of Chicago and eight surrounding suburbs; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago Post Office's 4,000 employees service more than 1.3 million homes, businesses and post office boxes; and

WHEREAS, Anthony B. Vaughan was previously Senior Plant Manager in the Chicago District as well as in the Gateway District which spans southern Illinois and eastern Missouri; and
WHEREAS, Before joining the Gateway District, Anthony B. Vaughan was Plant Manager at the Kansas City Bulk Mail Center; and

WHEREAS, Anthony B. Vaughan began his Postal Service career in 1981 as a distribution clerk at the Chicago Processing and Distribution Center; and

WHEREAS, Anthony B. Vaughan was promoted to Supervisor, Mails in 1988 and General Supervisor, Mails in 1990; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Anthony B. Vaughan serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirtieth day of April, 2014, do hereby congratulate Anthony ...
