RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Dan Bigg has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 59; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Dan Bigg was a widely admired drug treatment advocate in Chicago and the loving husband of Karen; and

 

WHEREAS, Dan Bigg was the much-adored father of Zachary, Sophia and Alexandra to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Dan Bigg played an influential role in battling Chicago's heroin crisis and was a co-founder of the Chicago Recovery Alliance; and

 

WHEREAS, Dan Bigg pioneered the concept of putting the overdose reversing drug naloxone directly into the hands of drug addicts and their family members; and

 

WHEREAS, Dan Bigg also distributed clean hypodermic needles to addicts to fight the spread of HIV; and

 

WHEREAS, The increased availability of naloxone, made possible by Bigg and the Alliance, has led to more than 15,000 overdose reversals; and

 

WHEREAS, In recognition of his pioneering work which had a positive impact on the lives of countless addicts, Chicago magazine named Dan Bigg "Chicagoan of the Year"; and

 

WHEREAS, The vision, hard work and dedication of Dan Bigg serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, Dan Bigg was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Dan Bigg imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of September, 2018, do hereby commemorate Dan Bigg for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dan Bigg.
