MEMORIAL RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Felix (Phil) R. Varchetta, on June 25, 2015, at the age of ninety-four; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and

WHEREAS, This dedicated son of the late Vincent and Anna Varchetta was born on July 11, 1920. He was the beloved brother of Rita Varchetta, John (the late Josephine) Varchetta; fond uncle of Anna Marie (Kurt Szaltis) and Vincent Varchetta; great uncle of Sean J. Guyer; devoted Godfather of Father Kevin Finnegan, Cindy Ho bus and Anna Marie; and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Phil leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and

WHEREAS, Phil, a United States Army Veteran who served as Army Sergeant, stationed in the Pacific during World War II; he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from DePaul University and his Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University through the GI Bill; and

WHEREAS, Phil trained as a Classical pianist and was orchestra leader of the renowned Phil Varchetta Orchestra and Music by Phil Varchetta, providing versatile music for countless events at numerous venues throughout the Chicagoland area.

WHEREAS, an active and vital member of his community, Phil touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity and spirit. He will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him, now, therefore,

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and member of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twenty-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Felix (Phil) R. Varchetta and express to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
