TRIBUTE TO THE LATE GENEVA JOHNSON

WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the City Council of the City of Chicago is hereby informed of the passing of Geneva Johnson, beloved citizen and friend, at the age of seventy-seven years; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; and

WHEREAS, Geneva was born April 3, 1937 in Greenwood, Mississippi to her loving parents Mack and Maggie Liddell. She was the eldest of two children; and

WHEREAS, Geneva was a graduated of Alexander's School of Beauty Culture and later was employed at he Cook County Circuit Court as a keypunch and data entry operator. She retired after thirty-nine years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, An ambitious and accomplished woman, Geneva opened the New Look Beauty Salon in 1994 and later the New Look Restaurant. She was known for her savory soul food and the friendly experience you received when you visited her establishment; and

WHEREAS, After the death of her husband, Maurice Johnson, Geneva found her life partner, Daniel McGill; and

WHEREAS, Geneva Johnson will be dearly missed by the many family members who shared her friendship and sought her advice, wisdom and consolation; and

WHEREAS, Her parents and brother, John Earl Liddell preceded her in death. She is survived by her endearing grandson, Cedric Williams, (Dellanira); her beloved partner, Daniel McGill; "special" aunt, Beatrice Bess and a host of friends, family and employees; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council, assembled here this 30th day of July 2014 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Geneva Johnson, and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy.

Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Geneva Johnson.
