Salute to the Centennial of Printer's Square
 
WHEREAS, Historic architecture offers us a glimpse into the past, affording us a view of how those of the past lived as well also offering an understanding of past knowledge of architecture and how past Chicagoans created our great city; and
 
WHEREAS, On August 15th, 2013, the residents and association board ofthe building known as Printer's Square celebrated the centennial anniversary of the building's construction; and
 
WHEREAS, Printer's Square was completed in 1913, designed by architect Charles Sumner Frost, whose resume includes many Chicago landmarks including Navy Pier; and
 
WHEREAS, The building was constructed in the heart of the historic district of Printers Row, which was named for the many printing businesses that at one time were housed in the area; and
WHEREAS, Printer's Square was originally designed and used as a printing factory, with heavy floors installed to support the weight of the massive printing presses of the day, and was converted to residential apartments in 1980; and
 
WHEREAS, Recently, the building was again renovated to include more amenities for its residents, while still preserving much ofthe original construction and therefore the rich history of the building as well; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward has apprised this august body ofthe centennial ofthe historic Printer's Square building; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 11th Day of September, 2013 AD, do hereby salute the 100th anniversary of the Printer's Square building and extend our very best wishes for the continued preservation of this and all historical architecture in our great city.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to The Printer's Square Condominium Association Board.
