RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Maureen O'Looney, a widely admired Chicago business and civic leader, has been named a Hometown Hero by the Irish American Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this honor by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of County Mayo, Ireland, Maureen O'Looney has been the proprietor of Shamrock Imports, located on the corner of Belmont and Laramie Avenues in the Cragin neighborhood since 1967; and
WHEREAS, Maureen O'Looney played an instrumental role in the founding of Gaelic Park, The Irish-American Heritage Center and The Emerald Society of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Maureen O'Looney has served as a key figure with Chicago Irish Immigrant Support, a nonprofit group founded in 1998 by Irish bishops and Cardinal Francis George; and
WHEREAS, Chicago Irish Immigrant Support is dedicated to assisting newly arrived Irish immigrants thrive in society by helping them gain citizenship and providing pastoral support; and
WHEREAS, Maureen O'Looney has been a true pillar of the Irish-American community in Chicago for more than fifty years; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Maureen O'Looney serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirtieth day of April, 2014, do hereby congratulate Maureen O'Looney on receiving this prestigious honor and do hereby extend our best wishes for her continued success and achievement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of/Maureen O'Looney. /
